Help:User levels

There are several user levels, which indicate the level of access a person has on Battlestar Pegasus.

Contents

[edit] Non-registered users

A non-registered user is capable of viewing all content on Battlestar Pegasus without needing to register.

However, such users are unable to modify or add content to Battlestar Pegasus, aside from anything in the Proving Ground namespace. Those that can edit that namespace are typically known as anonymous users, since they are only identifiable by an IP address, which may be dynamic and thus change with every online session.

[edit] Contributors

Contributors are users with a username, which is an online pen name that a user is known by. Such a pen name can be either their real name, shortened nick name, or some other form of unique name entirely.

Users with multiple names are called "socks", which a shorthand of "sock puppet". The use of sock puppets is discouraged under most conditions, unless it is to protect your identity for legal and reasonable reasons. (See: Battlestar Pegasus:Usernames for the relevant policies governing usernames.)

[edit] Assistants

Assistants have more responsibilities than normal contributors, but are not quite editors. Their duties include:

  • Copy editing submissions for grammar and flow.
  • Moving pages.
  • Helping new contributors or unregistered users with anything they need in regards to Battlestar Pegasus.
  • Ensuring that contributions are properly represented: verifying copyright information, categorization, cross-linking and other information.
  • Mediations of low-level disputes or discussions.

[edit] Editors

Editors are basically administrators, whose role is more slated for behind-the-scenes tasks, which include but are by no means limited to:

  • Copy editing submissions for grammar and flow.
  • Protecting, moving and deleting articles.
  • Ensuring that contributions are properly represented, verifying copyright information, categorization and cross-linking.
  • Mediating disputes or discussions.
  • Unpleasant duties, such as delivering accountability through blocking or banning users.

[edit] Stewards

Stewards deal with the behind-the-scenes functionality of the wiki, including technical support and development of the Battlestar Pegasus' unique interfaces. Stewards are responsible for promoting and holding accountability over assistants and editors.
